We’ve also notarized all newer versions of VueScan. We’ve had the 圆4 version of VueScan since 2010, and it works well on Catalina. In addition, Catalina only runs apps that have been ‘Notarized’ by Apple. The reason for this is that a lot of vendor-provided scanner software was 32-bit, and Catalina only supports 64-bit Mac apps. We’ve seen a lot of new customers for VueScan since Apple released macOS 10.15 (Catalina).

You can use this scanner on Mac OS X and Linux without installing any other software."

With it, Mac users can use their older 32-bit scanner with their Apple desktop or laptop even if they're running macOS Catalina. "VueScan was upgraded this week to version 9.7. Both scanning softwares are good.DPReview has a post today that says Vuescan has been updated to 9.7, to include reverse-engineered drivers for many scanners with 32-bit drivers: Later versions of Silverfast allows more adjustability of the image frame during the preview scan, and thus, will cause less unwanted cropping.Īnyway, it's all subjective.

It seemed to me that the VueScan "driver" wasn't communicating with the USB device in a proper way, which caused random lock-ups and weird sounds. Also, my Opticfilm 120 frequently locked up when I was using VueScan - especially with slide film and expired film - which required a massive bump in exposure in VueScan to come out right, for example. And after AutoIT8 calibrating it, and using the NegaFix profiles for some color film stock, I have to do a lot less corrections in PS later on all my scans. I have spent a lot of time learning Silverfast though. I consistently get better results from using Silverfast than VueScan. I used Silverfast in the past before I knew better, but didn't even install it with my 120 and just went straight onto Vuescan. Silverfast is the most opaque and cumbersome scanning software you can find, when the actual thing you want from a scan is so simple and uncomplicated. Hmm, If it isn't working with the earlier software I don't see why the new will solve a fundamental problem. And etc., but it the answer lays somewhere in the software or your settings.

So if the crop size is set to say 'auto' (again I have no idea what software you are using), is the scanner simply being fooled by a clear area in the image and thinks it is the edge of the frame? If so you need to set that particular negative to manual cropping and define the area yourself that needs to be scanned. If you mean the image is severely cropped and half is missing then it could be down to whatever format/crop size you have set, have you told the scanner it is a 35mm holder, or any number of things that relate to the automatic crop size. There are workarounds by using manual exposure and cropping and putting the film into a larger format holder. If you mean 'cut off' as in 'crop slightly', well yes nearly all scanners do that because the clear border of a negative will fool the exposure for the main part of the negative. I have the Plustek 120 and it doesn't cut images off, but I use Vuescan software, so any advice could be irrelevant. Such are the similar problems involved with answering scanner questions. How long is this piece of string? Here, I'm holding it up now!
